Toenail fungus is also known as onychomycosis is made up of tiny organisms that can infect fingernails and toenails. About 8% of adult population has toenail fungus. Whether you are young or old, healthy or ill, fungus can find its way into your toenail.

Toe nail fungus is almost always caused by a prior trauma to the nail, such as a fall from a heavy object, tight fitting shoes, hitting the toe on a bed post, or sporting activity that can cause trauma.
